INSTANT RAVA MODAK
Modak is an Indian sweet offered to Lord Ganesha as Prasad/Naivedyam during Ganesh Chaturthi Puja. Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha.
I am sharing my own simple, quick and easy Modak recipe for the beginners. Modak can be made with many kinds of stuffings like dry fruits, mawa, etc. This rava modak is made with coconut, raisins, and desi Khand stuffing. The outer cover is made with semolina.
Ingredients for the outer covering:
Sooji(Semolina) - 1 cup
Milkmaid - 3/4th cup
Milk - 2 cup
Desi ghee 3-4tbs
Kesar strings 25 to 30(Soaked in little milk)
For stuffing:
Shredded coconut powder - 1 cup
Powdered sugar or desi Khand - 1 cup or as per taste
chopped Kishmish(Raisins) - 1/2 cup
Eliachi powder - 1 tsp
Method for preparing the outer covering:
Take a non-stick pan.
Heat ghee in the pan.
Add semolina or sooji, roast it until crunchy and aromatic.
During roasting, the color of sooji should not change.
Now add milk.
Mix thoroughly and cook it on a low flame.
Add Kesar milk also.
Continuously stir so that the Rava does not stick and get burnt.
After 2 minutes add milkmaid.
Cook it till it becomes thick in consistency. This will take 1 to 2 minutes only.
Taste a pinch of the dough if you are making it for yourself of family.
If the semolina feels undercooked then cook for a few more minutes.
If you are making it for Lord Ganesha Bhog then you can check it with your fingers(whether it is cooked or not).
Let it cool down slightly. Do not let it cool down for a long time otherwise, you would not get the smooth dough.
For stuffing mix well all the stuffing material.
How to prepare Modak:
Take a Modak mold.
Grease it with desi ghee.
Take a small ball of sooji and insert it into the mold.
Using your fingers press it tightly and make a hollow center, fill the center using the stuffing mixture.
Now close the open part using little dough by pressing it. Make sure that it is sealed properly.
Carefully open the mold.
Remove the modak and place it on the plate. Continue shaping all the modaks.
First of all, it is offered to Lord Ganesha during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival as a Prasad. Then it is served to everyone.
