Red Chutney for Dosa- Made with Onions and Tomatoes.
If you don't have coconut for white chutney, the 2nd most delicious and tempting chutney for Dosa or Idli has to be the "Onion Tomato Red chutney".It can be prepared within 15 minutes from start to finish. And you will like it more than the traditional White Coconut Chutney.
Ingredients:
Tomatoes - 2 medium size.
Onion - 2 medium size.
Dry red chilly - 2 (Sookhi lal mirch)
Tamarind paste - 2 tbs.
Roasted Chana Daal - 2 tbs(Roasted bengal gram or bhuna chana daal)
Salt as per taste.
Refined oil - 1-2 tbs.
A little water to grind the chutney.
For Tadka:
Rai - 1/2tsp ( Mustard Seeds)
Curry leaves - 8-10
Hing - a pinch (asafoetida)
Oil - 1-2 tbs
Method:
Cut the tomatoes and onions in thin slices.
Take a pan and pour the oil in the pan.
Add the dry chilly and saute it for a few seconds.
Now add slices of onions. Saute it till light golden brown color.
Add slices of tomatoes and saute it for 1 to 2 minutes till the tomatoes are mushy.
Add chana daal to it and saute it for 1- 2 minutes.
Add Tamarind puree and salt as per taste.
Mix it thoroughly and then switch off the flame.
Keep it aside to cool down.
Put it in the mixer jar and add a little water.
Grind it for a minute or so and make a paste of it.
Take a pan and add oil in it. After heating oil add hing and rai to it and let it splutter.
Add curry leaves. Switch off the flame.
Pour this tadka on the ground paste and mix it thoroughly.
So, friends get ready to make it next time, whenever you are making Dosa or Idli.
