The biggest problem with honey is its quality.
If you want to enjoy most of the benefits derived from honey, the purity of honey is what you should consider before buying.
It is very easy to test the purity of honey at home with few simple tricks as described below:
1) The thumb and fingers test: Place a small amount of honey on your thumb and check if it spreads or spills around like any other liquid, it means it is not pure while pure honey is thick and it will not spread or spill.
Stickiness: Pure honey tends not to be sticky if you rub it between your fingers. While fake honey is fairly sticky because of the high percentage of added sweeteners and additives.
2) When you heat honey, pure honey will caramelize quickly but in case of impure honey, it may not caramelize and become bubbly on heating.
3) If you pour honey in a glass of water, pure honey will settle right at the bottom of the glass as lumps while impure honey will dissolve in water.
4) Put a drop of honey on blotting paper, impure honey will get absorbed while pure honey will not absorb.
When pouring on a piece of white cloth pure honey would not leave stains; While fake honey will leave stains on a white piece of cloth.
5) Dip a wooden stick in honey and take it out; impure honey will start dripping soon while pure honey will not drip easily.
These are some of the simple and common ways to test pure honey at home.
