Home Remedies for Stomatitis
What is stomatitis: This is the inflammation of the mucous membrane of the mouth. Starting as a red patch, they will inflame and develop a white or yellowish spot in the middle.
Causes:
Excessive smoking
Poor oral hygiene
Nutritional deficiencies like lack of vitamin B12, folic acid and iron etc
Ill-fitted dentures
Constipation
Indigestion
Low immunity
Mental stress
Improper sleep
Insufficient intake of liquids or water
Diet:
The first step is to decrease the toxicity level of your body. Drink more water. It will help to decrease the toxicity level of your body. Toxicity is the major cause of Ulcers. It will help in improving digestion.
Add more fresh fruits and fruit juices in your diet such as apples, pineapples, grapes, papayas, peaches etc.
Avoid tea,coffee,pickles,maida,sugar,sodas,processed foods etc.
Eat yogurt daily: Yogurt is a good source of healthy bacteria, which helps in creating a balance of bacteria inside the mouth.
Q: How much yogurt can you eat in a day?
A: 200 gm per day
Fennel seeds: Chew some fennel seeds with jaggery (Gur) every day after eating food. Fennel seeds act as a natural antibiotic.
Avoid eating fried foods.
Home remedies: Most people prefer to use natural remedies for stomatitis as there are fewer risks of side effects associated with them.
Mix 1 tsp of lemon juice in a glass of warm water, drink it daily and also do gargles with lemon water.
Ice: If you want to have temporary relief then you should apply this home remedy directly on your cold sores.
Gargling with warm salty water: Mix 1/2 tsp of salt in a 1/4th cup of warm water. Do gargles with this warm salty water. Repeat it 2-3 times per day.
Baking soda: Baking soda normalizes Ph values in the mouth saliva thus preventing infectious disease.
How to apply: Mix 1 tsp of baking soda with 1/2 cup of lukewarm water. Do Gargle with this solution 2-3 times per day.
In Ayurveda:
Causes according to Ayurveda: Excess intake of aggravated food such as black pepper, ginger, chili etc.
Aloe vera- It is a highly effective home remedy for sores. It can help you to speed up the healing process and to ease the inflammation and pain which are caused by the sores because it has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. The effect of moisturizing action and regenerative action speed up the recovery.
How to apply: Extract gel from fresh leaf and apply this gel directly on your sores. Repeat it 3-4 times per day. You can also eat aloe vera gel (1 tsp) 2-3 times per day.
Extra virgin Coconut oil: Due to antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties it kills the pathogens of ulcers. Try to get thick layers of oil on sores as a thin layer slide right off.
Green coriander leaves: Boil handful of green coriander leaves in a glass of water. After boiling strain it. Do gargles with this solution 2-3 times per day. Coriander has antiseptic, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties.
Mint leaves: Make a paste of mint leaves and apply it on sores. Leave it for few minutes after that wash it with clean water. Mint works as an antiseptic and antibacterial also.
Organic Honey: Due to antibacterial and antiseptic properties you need to apply honey on the sores. Repeat it 2-3 times per day.
The paste of honey and turmeric is also very effective. Take 1/4th tsp of turmeric and 1 tsp of honey. Mix it properly. Apply this paste on sores. Let it stay for a period of few minutes. After that rinse your mouth with lukewarm water.
As you know constipation is also a major reason for sores. To get rid of constipation follow these remedies:
1) Triphala powder: Take one teaspoon of Triphala powder with warm water before going to sleep. Repeat this method for a couple of weeks to permanently get rid of from any types of mouth sores.
Gulkand:1-2 tsp of gulkand with milk at night will clean your stomach and also It reduces acidity and heat in the stomach, thus helps to treat ulcers.
