Thepla Recipe
Thepla is one of the most popular and nutritious traditional Gujarati recipe. It can be easily prepared at home with some readily available ingredients in the kitchen.
Ingredients:
Wheat flour - 2oogm
Chickpea flour(Besan) - 50gm
Any Refined oil - 4tbs
Curd-50gm
Sesame seeds-1tsp
Cumin seeds-1 tsp
Carrom seeds- 1tsp
Chopped fresh fenugreek leaves-50gm
Crushed garlic - 1 tsp
crushed chili/optional - As per taste
All spices like:
Coriander powder-1 Tsp
Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
Red chilly powder-As per taste
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
Salt - As per taste
Ghee/oil - As per required
Warm water as per need
Method:
Mix all the ingredients and stir well. Use Luke warm water to knead it into a soft dough. Keep it aside for 15 minutes. Now prepare small balls from the dough and roll them into thin circles. Then take a tawa and heat it on medium flame. Grease it with ghee or oil and cook the thepla on tawa. Cook from both sides till it turns golden, Serve it hot with mint coriander chutney or with mango pickle. You can take your favorite cup of tea with it.
Tips:
To knead dough always use warm water.
After making a dough, do not make thepla immediately, keep the dough aside for at least 15 minutes.
Curd should not be sour.
During preparing, grease the thepla on both sides properly to make it soft.
Cook it on a medium flame for a golden brown flame. High flame might burn it and give it a blackish color.
