               Health benefits of Sabja Seeds

These seeds are also called as sweet basil seeds. But they are different from the holy basil which is common in every Indian household and credited for its immunity boosting properties. These seeds contain no calories and are rich in proteins, carbs and essential fats and are packed with a good deal of fiber.

Many of us in the modern times are not aware of the uses, nutritional facts and medicinal value of basil seeds. As far as health benefits are concerned the seeds are full of fiber and known for many surprising health benefits. These seeds do not really have distinct taste and can be added to a variety of dishes for a nutrition boost. They are vastly used in making flooda, Sharbat, milk shakes and other popular health drinks.

Health Benefits of Sabja Seeds -

Relieves constipation-  Due to gelatinous nature when soaked they help in cleaning the walls of the stomach. It ensures easy bowl movement and helps to flush out toxin from the stomach. You can take it with milk before going to bed to ease constipation.

For weight loss – It can be used for weight management purposes. It is full of fiber that makes your stomach full and  you do not feel hunger to a certain period of time. After soaking into water it has the ability to expand 30 times of its original size thus reduces longing for eating more.

Medicinal value – It can be used to treat digestion problems, cure constipation, removes skin infection, sore throats ,stress etc.

Anti inflammatory properties – It relieve pain , swelling and inflammation.

The omega- 3 fatty acids and the antioxidants present in these seeds reduce the production of free radicals in the body and reduce degenerative disease like cancer, Alzheimer’s  and many more.

It contain adequate amount of vitamin  K, protein and iron.  So it is suggested to include it in your daily diet requirements to skip embarrassment from hair loss and baldness.

It is good for dental health . It has antifungal , antibacterial, antiviral and antimicrobial properties. So these seeds can be chewed as a mouth freshner.

For acidity- These seeds have cooling and soothing effects on the stomach. To remove acidity add 1 tsp of soaked seeds in 1 cup of milk for 10-15 minutes and drink it.

These seeds have the calming effect on the brain that is why they are able to relieve stress , depression ,migraine etc.

They reduce the cholesterol level also hence it lowers the chances of coronary artery disorders, strokes and heart attacks.

Acts as coolant -These seeds are used to lower body heat.  That’s why  it  is one of the important ingredient in summer for a number of cool drinks such as falooda, rhoofza, nimbu pani , sharbat etc.

It has antispasmodic property also. This property reduces nervous irritation, cold, cough, flu etc.

They also relieve food poisoning and its associated symptoms like nausea and vomiting.

It increases the immunity of the body.

It is very effective in type -2 diabetes as it helps in regulation of blood sugar level.

NOTE -Children, elderly people and pregnant mother should avoid this.

Recommended time to eat sabza seeds – Eat basil seeds before eating a meal to make you feel like your stomach is full and prevent yourself overeating. Soak these seeds in water for 15 minutes  or overnight. You can eat it after this either direct or in milk or in any form.
