Autumn season  lasts  from October to November. It is an exciting time for fresh fruit and vegetables. Autumn’s fruits basket is  varied and delicious and is  at its fresh best . Apples  are cheap enough . So are the fresh dry fruits like figs, walnuts, almonds, cashews  etc.

It is a season of dark yellow, deep green fruits & vegetables. These are rich in disease fighting pytochemicals.  You should make them a regular part of your diet .  The Top  10 foods that  should be eaten in the month of October and November are.:-

1-      Sweet potatoes – These are rich source of beta carotene & vitamin C . These are  ideal for people with diabetes,   since they are considered a low glycemic food  (Low GI foods).

2-      Pumpkins – These are also rich source of beta carotene and vitamin C which reduces the risk of developing cancer. Seeds of pumpkin are rich in protein  and are a good source of omega -3 fatty acids which help in preventing heart disease.

3-      Apples-  These contain flavonoids ( antioxidant) . People who eat minimum 1 apple in a day,  keep themselves away from heart disease and all type of cancers.

4-      Pears- Rich in soluble fibers which help in lowering the blood cholesterol levels.

5-      Figs- Figs chewy texture make them very delicious . It is  a fibrous fruit which is very helpful in relieving constipation.

6-      Cabbage- it is a rich source of iron and vitamin K , and we know that iron helps  in increasing the Hb level.

7-      Turnip – Good source of fiber and vitamin C.

8-      Cauliflower – This is  an excellent  source of vitamin C and prevent s cancer.

9-      Cashews- The soft texture and sweet taste of cashew is enhanced many fold in the autumn season.

10-   Mushrooms-Good quality  Mushrooms are easily available in this season and are filled with Vitamin D and proteins.

Note: Some more autumn seasonal beneficial fruits and vegetables are – Peanuts, mushroom , Oranges, Pineapple, Papaya, potato, sweet corn , spinach  and tomato .
